QotD: I Don't Mean To Brag, But...
What's something that you're really proud of, which most people in your life don't know about?

I used to always want to be a nurse....
When I was 18 I enrolled in Nursing School. I went for a year and dropped out...it just wasn't for me...
Too much Science involved...I just wanted to help sick people...I thought it was outrageous that I had to know what every muscle and tendon in the body was just to help sick people. ( I know now that this is much NEEDED information and I was stupid)
The other reason I dropped out was I couldn't stand blood, or needles or the thought of sticking someone else with needles.
When I got pregnant with my twins I got real familiar with needles....I had to insert a cannula into my leg every seventy two hours to deliver medication to keep me from going into labor. At first it sucked really bad...and then I sorta liked it...it was a rush almost to see that needle go into my leg...(God I'm so glad I never found Heroin in my teenage years)
THEN- after the twins were born my youngest twin Aaron had to have a Gastrostomy inserted in his stomach...a feeding port. There was this little port on his tummy next to his belly button that I had to hook a tube to and feed him with a syringe..at first it grossed me out really bad...especially the day I walked in and he had pulled the whole thing out and was chewing on it and leaked his food all over the floor...YUCK!
But I followed the instructions the doctor gave me on the phone and inserted it back in...(gagging the whole time)
THEN- about 6 months ago my best friend was bitten by a Brown Recluse Spider....
Her leg got really swollen and red and ugly...she went to the doctor who cut it open, drained it, and packed it with this stringy yellow stuff and bandaged it up...I was there..it was UGLY. Then the doctor turned to me and said.." SO you think you could pack this for her 3 times a day?" Well what else was I going to say...her leg would have rotted off if I hadn't...so I said "sure" and my stomach rolled.
The first time I packed her leg I as shaking so badly....I mean imagine yourself shoving gauze INSIDE someone elses leg.... By the second day it was like nothing...and today she barely has a scar left where the bite was.
So I guess I COULD have gotten through nursing school after all...but I have played nurse for the past seven years anyways...and I don't need a degree for that.

You *should* be proud, not just of your nursing care, but your commitment to friendship!
